This one is different

Transport!!

We have been hampered in past events due to the difficulty in getting from one venue to the other. On one occasion we were stuck in traffic for 45 minutes. Alright if you are in London for 2 weeks, but when the day is crammed with stuff to do then it becomes a bit of a bind.

For this Gallon we will be walking all the way - 21 minutes in fact, in total. This will be good news for some of the gang who like to moan and wish they could be teleported from pub to pub!

hotels

Travelodge Kings Cross Royal Scot

We found Travelodge Kings Cross Royal Scot being close to Kings Cross, and is the cheapest out of the central Travelodges. You can also choose Kings Cross Central itself, or Farringdon - which we have stayed at before - all much of a muchness. If you do choose a Travelodge - we would suggest walking from Kings Cross, left out of the station - follow the road past McDonald's, then bare right down Kings Cross Road (A201, right of Honest Burger) then follow the road. The King's Cross Royal Scot is on the left, closely followed by Farringdon TL around 5 minutes further down.

The Punch & Judy, 40 The Market Covent Garden Greater London

The Punch & Judy is a traditional family-friendly pub in the heart of London's Covent Garden piazza. Dating back to 1787, it gets its unique name from the famous puppet show that was first performed in the nearby market in 1662 for the children of local flower sellers.

PUB NO: 4

The Lamb & Flag, 33 Rose St, London WC2E 9EB

The Lamb & Flag, 33 Rose St, London WC2E 9EB

Great London pubs don't get much more historic than this. The very first mention of a pub on this site is in 1772, when it was known as The Coopers Arms (the name changed to The Lamb & Flag in 1833).

The building's brickwork is circa 1958 and conceals what may be an early 18th century frame of a house, replacing the original one built in 1638.

The poet and satirist Samuel Butler is supposed to have been one of the pub’s early customers but he died almost a century before it can even be confirmed that there was a tavern here. (Claims that the pub’s history can be traced back to 1623 are almost certainly erroneous.) Undoubtedly, though, Butler did live on Rose Street, which is a narrow, dog-legged thoroughfare, bisected by Floral Street, and with the exception of the Lamb and Flag it’s not much to look at nowadays.

The pub acquired a reputation in the early nineteenth century for staging bare-knuckle prize fights, earning it the nickname 'The Bucket of Blood,' and the alleyway beside the pub was the scene of an attack on the poet John Dryden in 1679 by thugs hired by John Wilmot, 2nd Earl of Rochester, with whom he had a long-standing conflict.

The Porterhouse, 21- 22 Maiden Lane, London, WC2E 7NA

The Porterhouse was founded in Dublin back in the mid-90s, opening their iconic site in Temple Bar in 1996. We opened here in Covent Garden in 2000. Since then, we have been pouring pints of our award-winning craft beers, showcasing some of London’s best live music and screening all major sporting events, particularly rugby, to customers from all over the world. We are still family owned and family run and proud to be independent.

We might be one of the largest bars in London, but it does not always feel that way.  The bar is split over three main floors, with a number of mezzanine levels in between, as well as boasting one of Central London’s largest beer gardens.

Let the fast pace of London pass you by as you sit and drink a pint of Plain Porter, sip on a cocktail, watch your favourite team in action on one of the many screens or dance the night away to the live band.
